Minnesota’s charm is due to its Natural Beauty - By: Laura Durso, Posted on: 2006-12-28

It’s true that Minnesota is not the place many people would like to call home. It turns extremely cold in the winter due to its location on the northern edge of the continental United States. No wonder, the geographically large state of Minnesota does not even rank in the top twenty states in terms of population.

However, Minnesota is a great attraction for tourists, especially in summer. It is situated along the shores of Lake Superior and enjoys cool summer breezes in the summer months making it a perfect retreat for holidaymakers. They come here to visit the pristine landscape and the natural splendor of Minnesota.

Visitors who come to Minnesota are not always attracted by theme parks or high class gambling venues. In fact, they want to spend their free time in Minnesota to escape the trials, stresses, and madness of the places from where they come. They would rather spend time exploring the deep forests and pristine lakes and experience a simple lifestyle and the peace of mind that comes with it.

To be certain, those vacationing in Minnesota almost have to possess a love of the outdoors in order to truly enjoy the experience. There are ample opportunities for hiking, biking, boating, and a host of other outdoor activities all across the great state.

The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness is probably the most popular attraction for visitors to Minnesota looking for an outdoor adventure. The wilderness is home to over 1,000 crystal clear lakes that are great for fishing, swimming, boating, and even water skiing if it is permitted. In order to keep the lakes in pristine condition, many do not allow motorized boats on the lakes.

The lakes of Minnesota attract canoe enthusiasts from across the world. It’s quite a challenge and an adventure to navigate the lake bodies in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. There are also many campgrounds, lodges and resorts to cater to those not interested in canoeing but merely wanting to get away from the stressful city life.

Minnesota is home to a wide range of wildlife which is also another big draw for visitors. It is completely possible to see moose, bears, wolves, deer, eagles, and even those crazy loons during your stay in Minnesota. If you do not happen to see what you are looking for in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, there are more isolated and remote regions where such wildlife flourishes.

Minnesota is definitely not a "glitz and glamour" kind of state. Its residents tend to be down to earth and true lovers of Nature and the splendor of the natural world which is probably why they have done such a remarkable job preserving their state. Fortunately for the rest of us, we can visit this natural splendor and bring back with us memories that will last a lifetime.
